The town of Greer was named after James Manning Greer. He was the grandson of the great John Greer, Sr. John surveyed the land in 1750 and many of James’ descendants still call Greer home. Many other Greer residents came from a ship that landed in 1764, called The Falls.
Industry in the area continued to develop to modern day. Greer is now home to the only major BMW manufacturing plant in the U.S. It employs over 9,000 people and makes some of the finest luxury vehicles in the world.
