A Spotlight on Wade Hampton

It’s impossible to talk about the history of this place without mentioning the man it is named after, Wade Hampton III.  He was a plantation owner and eventually a politician who passed away in 1902.  He served in the Confederate Cavalry and eventually became a lieutenant general during the Civil War.  He formed “Hampton’s Legion” and played a major role in the first battle of Bull Run.
